In a pilot program Dr Ratey was involved in, the school district conducted a three year study with a program called Learning Readiness PE. The high school dramatically improved reading and math scores using physical activity. The head of the math department presented at the national math conference, his topic, How PE can improve math scores.
The high school now has guidance counselors ask students what their most difficult class will be each semester- and they schedule PE the period before. Brain research proves a student is in best position ready to learn , right after exercise.
Instead of complaining about PE, the teachers should be embracing it. Times have changed and I applaud Governor Christ for taking a stand that will help children..
