The only privately owned copy of the Magna Carta was sold at auction today for 21.32 million dollars. Dating back to the year 1297 and bearing the wax seal of King Edward I, this is the only original copy of the Magna Carta located in the United States. Fortunately the new owner, David Rubenstein, plans to loan the document to the National Archives in Washington D.C. for display.
The Magna Carta was paramount to the drafting of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
