People reading online are not looking for a book. They are primarily skimming. They are hunting for information. A long paragraph will cause high bounce rates. Readers will determine that it’s probably not worth the effort to continue reading. Readers will make a split second decision to continue and reevaluate quickly. Short paragraphs will keep them longer as well. Your goal is to make them finish and make it to the author box and go to your site.
2) Use Numbers or Bullet Points.
It may have started with David Letterman but now it’s a common style. It doesn’t have to be funny but it doesn’t hurt either. List of numbers or bullets give order and a clean presentation. It also provides ranking and a defined end. Don’t question why it works but accept it.
3) Use Sub-headings.
It divides the points in a readable fashion. Use bold print to accentuate the difference. People will jump to the relevant material for them.
4) Killer Title.
Be short and concise with a teaser or question. Include your keywords. I will have a post later this week on how important this point is to your success. Use words like “How to†or “Tips†.Also include action words.
5) Use facts and numbers.
State your point with evidence. Don’t overwhelm them with statistics but quote supporting figures. Be accurate and don’t exaggerate. The reader needs to trust you and believe your point. Get the facts and present them concisely.
