The 26th Annual Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival is being held Feb 16-17 in the historic fishing village that still feels like Old Florida. This is one of few remaining fishing locations not condominiumized in the rush to redevelop the entire coastline. Here commercial fishermen still ply the waters on Anna Maria Sound, fish houses and docks are still working, and traditional craft still used. The festival celebrates the heritage with displays, demonstrations, tours, boat rides, marine touch tanks, and ecology awareness. Proceeds go to preserve habitat.
