Scientists are worried about a decline in the Scottish puffin population. This year there are 30% less birds on the Isle of May, the largest colony in Scotland, than there were 5 years ago. Though scientists aren't sure, they think that the birds didn't make it through the winter due to lack of food. Those that are on the island look thinner than usual. Global warming is thought to have depleted the reserves of plankton in the north sea. Other sea birds have been affected too and the sharp decline has the scientists worried.
