Top Comments Plugin - Good or Bad?

I have never been a big fan of using the top comment plugin on my blog. However, I do my own thing to reward my commenters.

What do you think of the top comment plugin? Is it good or bad for blogs? How do you reward your commenters? Do you use an alternative to the plugin?

Here are my positives, negatives, and possible alternatives...
