There’s been quite a bit of talk about Google’s PageRank in the last few years, and it’s recently come to head with so many sites being spanked for not using NoFollow tags on their links. Regardless of Google’s insistence that we avoid using links without this tag, many bloggers will continue to offer proper link love. Whether it’s for profit or just plain goodwill is really none of Google’s business. Besides, they don’t own the internet … yet.

Before the last update, many of the best blogs on the web were relatively new and managed to get by with a PageRank between 0 and 3. After the update, many of the PR2’s and 3’s were bumped up to 4, and others were demoted for various reasons. I won’t discuss the particulars of Google’s actions, as many other bloggers have already discussed it to death, but I will say that this has made it harder for me to make a little bit of extra money through various blogs since advertisers are now expecting PRs higher than I can offer.
